My Biography
Sundance IS "Chicago's Tightest Female DJ"...She got introduced to the art of DJing at an early age when she became a drummer, both in high school and for her church. Even though drumming was her passion, DJing was what she always wanted to do but couldn't. DJing wouldn't return back to Sundance's path until she was 25 and recovering from surgery. Upon a visit from her grandfather, he told her to pursue DJing, if thats what she wanted to do she should do it and be the absolute best at it. After healing, she began to piece together used DJ equipment and records. Sundance revealed to a friend, that she could not stop dreaming of being a DJ, the friend was legendary, Steve "Miggedy" Maestro (formally of 107.5 WGCI) Steve told her not to waste his time, he then worked out a solid schedule for Sundance to travel to his house 2-3 days a week and start Phase1, Blending. Steve spent quality time with her before he relocated to New York. Sundance was now on her own, learning the basic. Months past and she revealed to another friend, that she was in the process of learning how to DJ, she even asked him, would he show her some technique and maybe work out with her, that friend was The Master, Boolu Master. Boolu didn't believe Sundance was DJing and had equipment, but while on the westside of Chicago, Boolu stopped at Sundance house and saw the investment and instantly started working with Sundance, displaying more than blending, but the study of music, genres, engineering, sound quality, reading a crowd and how to stay on top of the game.
Sundance practiced 8 hours a day, EVERY day, while her daughter attended school so her DJ friends would hire her to "open" up for them. She humbly took EVERY gig that came across her way. Her starting pay was $75.00 a night, making mix tapes, all while she was employed at WGCI as a radio personality. Upon listening to one of her mix tapes, her program director allowed her to a "guest DJ" on the air but only for the holiday. When Sundance made the transition to join V103 as a full time radio personality, the new program director, Derrick Brown, thought it was a great idea to have a female DJ, that just happen to be, a radio personality.
Sundance then became V103's 1st Female DJ. Her journey had just started. Formally of WGCI (ten yrs), V103 (currently). Sundance is the 1st female DJ on ALL Urban Radio in Chicago. She also has been a guest DJ on Fox Television (3 yrs in a row), WGN, ABC Channel 7’s Windy City Live and she's also Val Warner's personal DJ. Sundance has also appeared on BET’s Rap City: The Basement. Being featured in XXL Magazine, Jet Magazine and The Source Magazines as being noted as: "Chicago's Tightest Female DJ" She has DJ'ed for Nike Town Chicago, Adidas Chicago, Mac Make-up Chicago, Red Bull Events, Mountain Dew, McDonald's Inner City Tour, DJing in-stores for Aldo Shoes, and Morocco, Victoria Secrets, Metro PCS and Verizon and recently added, Discover. Before working in radio, Sundance has ALWAYS had a passion for music, she played drums at an early age and at 16, she was a featured rapper on the 1989 single “Git On Up,” produced by Fast Eddie. The single charted on Billboard Dance charts for 10 weeks and the single was certified Gold by RIAA. Sundance went on a 8 month world tour promoting the hit single, "Git On Up".
Since she started her career working in radio 23 years ago, Sundance has been a top Chicago club DJ. The Source magazine named her “The Strongest Female DJ coming from the Midwest” in 2004, 2005 and 2006. The Truth Awards gave her the honorary title of “Chicago’s Tightest Female DJ” three consecutive years: 2004, 2005, and 2006. In 2009, Sundance won Sprite’s National Step-Off “Best Female DJ Award,” which was sponsored by McDonald’s. Voted "Chicago’s Hottest Female DJ", five years in a row, and Sundance is the first female DJ added to The Core DJ’s Worldwide, with over 56,000 members.
She has DJed for numerous of major celebrities like Kem, Angie Stone, India Aire,Tyrese, Joe, Dwele Lalah Hathaway, Faith Evans and Cedric The Entertainer, and just recently MC Lyte.
She is a rhythmic femme fatale to be reckoned with. Not only is Sundance a legend in the U.S., she also can be heard in Europe through her mixes and bookings. She IS "Chicago's Tightest Female DJ" and has NO plans on stopping.
